Day 28: Hello, Heat!

Course: Wray, CO to McCook, NE
Distance: 95 miles
Terrain: Rolling hills
Conditions: Slight headwind, heat

Day three of the fearsome foursome commenced and by the first mile I was ready to be done. I was riding with Jeff and Austin, so my pace line was skilled. Jeff likes to pull a lot, so it was pretty nice to be able to draft for over 50 miles throughout the course of the ride. Unfortunately, not too much of anything exciting happened during the ride. About the first 50 miles flew by like nothing since we were all joking around and having a great time. After that though, the heat kicked in. We all began to sweat and pounding out the miles became harder and harder. Jeff eventually bonked and it was tough for him to pull so much. He just wound up pulling as much as the rest of us usually are able to.

We stumbled into McCook and got a nice nap and shower in. We stayed at a Methodist church and a women's group from the church cooked us a lasagna dinner. After dinner, our PM told us that one of the cyclist's family was sponsoring a trip to the movie theater. Our choices were White House Down and Despicable Me 2. I really didn't want to see White House Down so I pretended to be overwhelmingly excited for Despicable Me 2. Kind of like the SNL skit when Kristen Wiig goes nuts for surprise parties, if you know what I mean. That act won some people over and we all decided to go to Despicable Me 2. It was a fun and funny movie, so I'm glad we went.

Afterwards we headed back to hit the sack early for the final day of the fearsome foursome.
