I woke up with the "Seriously let's just get this done already..." mindset. Day 4 of the fearsome foursome. I knew that if I had made it this far, today would just be a mental game. As it turns out, that's all it was. I rode with Alberto and Michael Brooks. Alberto has been riding a lot better since getting his seat replaced, and he kept up with Brooks and me really well. Luckily the weather wasn't too hot. It was very much tornado weather - humidity with a cool breeze. With my new mindset, I somehow found the beast within. I pulled for about 7-10 miles at a time when it came to be my turn in the crosswinds. We all were taking turns and working hard so we made pretty good time, and without being too hot at the end.
We came to lodging and took a look at the board that tells us what to do at the end of every ride. No friendship visit, but a dinner sponsored by Pizza Hut and a JOH North 5v5 basketball tournament at night. We went to Pizza Hut and absolutely feasted. They were bringing out pizza after pizza and could hardly keep up with how fast we ate. When we finally slowed down we all realized that the basketball tourney was about to get a lot harder.
The team headed back and we all got prepped for some basketball and tasting the pizza a second time in the hot gymnasium. We randomized the teams and I wound up on a pretty good team. Basketball is the one sport that just never came naturally to me growing up, so my job was pretty much to run around and tire out the man marking me. Occasionally I made a pretty sweet pass. I never got on the board for a point, though. My team, and I hesitate to say "My," won the tournament. That's all thanks to a couple of people that were actually good at basketball.
Either way, it was a lot of fun. We all participated and had a good time.
